INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC SEMINAR WAS HELD IN KALIBR TECHNOPARK
The international scientific seminar was held in Kalibr Technopark. The Russian and German sides discussed the prospects of scientific and industrial cooperation.
Representatives of the technopark and the Moscow Innovation Cluster took part in the seminar from the Russian side. Germany was represented by the Helmholtz-Gemeinschaft Deutscher Forschungszentren Association of German Research Centers that is a large scientific cluster of Germany, which includes 19 scientific, technical and biomedical centers, with more than 39 thousand employees (approximately half of them are scientists).
Representatives of two scientific institutes arrived - DESY German Synchrotron Center (Hamburg) and the Helmholtz Center for Materials Science and Coastal Research (Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht GEMS). According to Mikhail Kogan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Kalibr PJSC, the idea of establishing contacts with a large scientific community was born a year ago during the visit of the delegation of Kalibr Technopark to Germany: the organization of German institutes work, its openness to the international companies that worked there, made a big impression.
The scale of the association is evidenced by both its annual budget (almost 5 billion euros) and scientific returns (each year employees register 300 to 400 patents). As for DESY, it is considered one of the leading developers of charged particle accelerators - the discovery of the legendary Higgs boson, named the "particle of God", occurred, including its efforts. Not without DESY's help was the structure of the ribosome discovered (Nobel Prize in Chemistry for 2009). By the way, Russia also closely cooperates with this center. When the world's largest free-electron laser was built there, Russia contributed 27 percent of the amount for its construction and commissioning.
“At least 12 other countries of the world are working with us,” says Dr. Sabina Jemlich, who is responsible for innovation and technology transfer at DESY. - In addition to pure science, our research base helps introduce innovations in real sectors of the economy - chemistry, energy, food, cosmetics, aviation, etc. In general, the synchrotron is an instrument of the future, with its help you can not only check the characteristics of new materials (for example, alloys or catalysts), but also literally create them, influencing the interaction of particles. Not surprisingly, DESY has become a point of attraction for young companies and startups that use our equipment to test their projects and find solutions to scientific problems. In addition, our center has various tools for the material support of scientists, with the help of which they can develop their idea to quite tangible results.
GEMS, which develops equipment in the field of material research, also works closely with DESY. With its help, scientists are now working on the creation of light magnesium alloys for automobiles, materials for implants and regenerative medicine.
