Digital Humanities in Russia: Digital Humanities in Business. Seminar Results

On 2nd December Kalibr Technopark hosted a seminar "Digital Humanities in Russia: Digital Humanities in Business".

The event was held in a hybrid format - speakers made reports in the conference hall of the technopark, and the bulk of the audience watched the live broadcast on the YouTube channel. The event was organized by Kalibr Technopark in cooperation with the Center for Digital Humanities Research of the National Research University Higher School of Economics.

At the seminar, existing practitioners shared their knowledge, understanding of what digital humanities is, and also talked about interesting cases. Anastasia Bonch-Osmolovskaya was the moderator and first speaker, telling the audience about Digital Humanities in Russia and the world. Following Anastasia, Maria Loleit presented her project, the largest open digital archive and laboratory of patterns in Russia "Ornamika".

Then Fyokla Tolstaya presented the Live Pages mobile application, a joint project of Samsung Electronics, linguists from the Tolstoy Digital group and the Higher School of Economics linguistics school to popularize reading among mobile device users. The fifth speaker was Boris Orekhov with a report “Artificial intelligence and creative content: who can be replaced by neural networks”. At the end of the seminar, Daniil Skorinkin presented a crowdsourcing project for digitizing postcards "I am writing to you".

At the end of the event, the participants discussed ways to develop the Digital Humanities direction in an informal setting over a cup of coffee and planned a joint conference for specialists at Kalibr Technopark in 2022.
