Kalibr Technopark opportunities are presented to the German business community
Last week, from April 23 to April 26, the delegation of Kalibr JSC visited Hamburg (Germany). The purpose of visit was to establish international relations with the German business community and to visit the leading objects of the innovation infrastructure of Hamburg.
The International Association of Science Parks (IASP) represented by Igor Titov, President of the Eurasian Division IASP, became a co-organizer of the trip to Hamburg along with Kalibr JSC.
The delegation of Kalibr JSC held talks with representatives of the following structures of the city of Hamburg, namely:
HIP Health Innovation Port.
Founded in 2017 on the territory of the HIP Health Innovation Port, here biotechnology start-ups have the opportunity to implement innovative ideas for the digital healthcare industry directly under PHILIPS company's objectives.
Based on the HIP Health Innovation Port, a 3-month acceleration program has been formed aimed at attracting and scaling projects in the natural sciences, biotechnologies, medical technologies and pharmaceuticals, nanotechnologies.

In 2017, Hamburg won the competitive selection to hold the world's largest conference on intelligent transport systems in the city, which will be held October 11-15, 2021 at the Congress Center of Hamburg (CCH).
The members of the delegation held negotiations with the organizing committee of the Conference and discussed the options for the participation of the management company and Technopark tenants in the business program. Among other things, the host country presented projects that have been implemented in Hamburg since 2016 - it was from this period that the ITS implementation program was launched in the city. Thus, the research division of Volkswagen conducts testing of vehicles equipped with automated control systems on the territory of Hamburg. Currently, the city is building a nine-kilometer test site, which will be equipped with all the necessary infrastructure for the use of automated control and data exchange with information networks. And S-Bahn, a subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn, will launch unmanned city trains in Hamburg by 2021.
Coworking WeWork.
WeWork is an American coworking network that has been around for over 10 years and has been opened in more than 20 countries. WeWork premises are rented by such major players as IBM, GE, Spotify, Bank of America, BNP Pariba, etc.
The delegates of Kalibr JSC discussed the possibility of a joint Kalibr and WeWork co-working loyalty program, which will allow tenants to have open access to the space in Hamburg on special conditions and participate in WeWork events around the world.
HIT Technopark
The non-state Technopark HIT was founded as a project of a local technological university and city authorities on the basis of the former industrial factory Temp, manufacturer of trucks.
The model for attracting SMEs and organizing an ecosystem for startups has proven its effectiveness, and today the management company is preparing to build another 9,000 sq.m. in the neighboring territories. The territory of the technopark unites office, industrial, laboratory spaces, restaurants and exhibition areas, hotels and conference halls. The infrastructure also includes a separate Internet network, its own data protection center, a start-up support program, free events for residents (thematic workshops with one invited speaker from abroad, innovative workshops, etc.).
The management company of Technopark HIT organized an additional meeting with the tenant - Garz & Fricke GmbH - a manufacturer of components in the field of microelectronics. The example of Garz & Fricke GmbH demonstrates the importance of establishment innovation ecosystem on the scale of a technopark - formed as a student project of young scientists, for 27 years the company not only conquered the German market, but also has been increased the rented space in Technopark 3 times. Today, Garz & Fricke GmbH builds its own plant, owns assets in India and the USA, and also operates as investor.
The second important component of the business mission was negotiations with Hamburg Invest, the government agency responsible for attracting investment and innovative development in Hamburg.
In Hamburg Invest, 3 departments were formed: on international activities, on working with local companies, on working with technology parks and start-ups. Each of the departments carries out activities aimed at the development of cluster policy in Hamburg and to attract investment in the economy of the federal state.
During the negotiations, the head of the international relations department of Hamburg Invest held a presentation of investment activity in Hamburg, the activities of local technoparks.
Hamburg has been developing cluster policy since the 1990s. Clusters unite companies in such fields as aviation industry, creative industries, media and IT, logistics, 3D technologies, etc.
The industrial centers of Hamburg also act as points of attraction in the city’s industry: the Altona Innovation Park; Technopark Finkenwerder; Technopark Harburg; Technopark Bergedorf.
Today, more than 180,000 companies are registered in Hamburg.
At the end of the visit, a working meeting was held with representatives of the German business community, which resulted in high potential for cooperation and implementation of joint projects both at the Technoparks and at b2b level.
DESY
DESY is the largest particle physics research center in Germany, on whose territory an experimental synchrotron is located.
The main objectives of DESY are to provide synchrotron radiation and give acces to these experiments for research groups in the field of solid state physics, biology, chemistry, etc. Access to data obtained from the research center is in demand in various industries.
Groups of scientists from Russia from accredited universities and research institutes regularly conduct experiments on the basis of a synchrotron.
One of the actual initiatives of DESY was the establishment of its own investment fund with financing projects in the amount of up to 100,000 euros at the seed stage. In addition, on the basis of the Center there will be a new industrial development center and technopark, that includes a space for startups up to 2000 sq. M.
During the meeting, the delegation of Kalibr JSC got acquainted with the elements of DESY innovation infrastructure: production and laboratory facilities, commercial developments, educational courses and seminars.
The results of the negotiations with DESY are expected to attract Kalibr Technopark tenants to research projects in Hamburg. Additionally, the organization of a practical scientific seminar from DESY employees for Technopark companies is planned.
European XFEL.
The European X-ray free electron laser is an international project to set up the world's largest free electron laser. The project was developed by DESY research center and presented in 2002.
The intergovernmental project involves 12 countries: Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Russia, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
Following the visit, the delegation of Kalibr JSC discussed issues related to technology transfer and interaction with the experimental laboratories of the European XFEL.

The International Association of Science Parks (IASP) unites more than 350 technology parks from more than 70 countries. Also, the residents of the association are companies engaged in production and scientific developments in the field of new technologies, biotechnologies, agriculture and new audiovisual programs. established in 1984.
The task of the IASP is to connect science parks professionals and provide them with services. Also, the task of the organization is to promote the growth and increase of the efficiency of technology parks, strengthen the competitiveness of resident companies. The headquarters of the IASP is in Malaga (Spain). The second regional office is located in Beijing (PRC).
The Eurasian Division IASP is an international non-governmental organization uniting the management companies of technology parks, business incubators, institutes for the development of science and innovation. Russia has a key role in technology transfer between Europe and Asia, the operator of the Eurasian Division is the Moscow Export Center. The division was formed in 2017, following the annual IASP conference in Moscow.
