TENANT OF KALIBR TECHNOPARK HAS DEVELOPED AN INNOVATIVE METHOD FOR IMPLANTATION OF DENTAL PROSTHESES
The solution allows patients to restore chewing functions even in the complete absence of teeth and bone tissue. The duration of operations and the risk of complications are significantly reduced. The tenant of Kalibr Technopark - Endoprint Innovative and technological company - has developed and patented an innovative technology for implantation of dentures using special guides. They make it possible to carry out operations without the risk of complications, even in the absence of teeth or atrophy (thinning) of soft and bone tissues. When using the traditional technique, such surgical manipulations are associated with the threat of injury to the nerves or bones in the maxillofacial region.
“Residents of Moscow technoparks get access to modern infrastructure that allows them to solve the most complex problems and create advanced high-tech solutions. Medicine is one of the most demanded areas for research and development in Moscow technoparks”, said Alexey Fursin, the head of the Department of Entrepreneurship and Innovative Development of the city of Moscow.
The individual guides developed by Kalibr Technopark resident allow minimizing the number of incisions and the risk of injury by using a 3D model of the operated area. It is created on the basis of CT scans of the jaw. Specialists scan a conventional impression to create implants and in virtual mode superimpose it on a 3D model of the site where prosthetics is planned. This helps bioengineers create products that best match the relief of bone and soft tissues, and also ensures their exact position on the jaw. “The product is put on the jaw like a boxing mouthguard and is securely attached to the remaining teeth or in the thinnest part of the mucous membrane. If bone grafting is not implied, then the operation is performed without additional incisions. If they are still required, then we perform them only in the place where the bone tissue needs to be augmented, since the guide allows you to see during the operation. We calculate all this in advance when computer planning the operation”, explained Sevinj Aliyeva, the assistant of the Department of Dentistry, Surgical and Maxillofacial Surgery of the First Saint Petersburg State Medical University named after academician I.P. Pavlova . This technology reduces the duration of operations by about a third.
The guides can be easily modified to suit the individual characteristics of patients and any volume of surgery, taking into account the anatomical features of a particular patient. The solution of the residents of Kalibr makes surgical intervention possible even in thinned areas of the jaw. Previously, dentists could only use tomogram and impression data separately. Traditional guides did not allow setting all the necessary indicators. When using them, it was necessary to change the instrument, which led to its displacement and the penetration of the drill into the nerve, sinus or internal cavities of the bone. Such cases could cause partial paralysis of the facial muscles, chronic sinusitis and other complications. “Using 3D modeling, we manage to take into account all the details and individual characteristics for each patient and completely avoid the drill displacement and its sinking into the fragile bone structure”, noted Nikolay Krainov, the head of the Endoprint Innovative and technological company.
Tenants conducted research using prototypes with 10 patients with toothlessness and atrophy of soft and bone tissues. Their operations were successful, the recovery process is faster and without complications. For reference: Kalibr Technopark was opened in 2015. The main areas of development of residents are multimedia technologies, information and telecommunication technologies and instrument making. More than 100 companies are its residents. By this time, more than two thousand organizations have become residents of 36 Moscow technoparks. They have created 60 thousand jobs. The main areas of their activities are information technology, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, microelectronics. 82 percent of resident companies are small and medium-sized businesses. Endoprint Innovation and Technology Company is an enterprise for the development and production of products for endoprosthetics and implantology using 3D printing technologies.
The company has been a tenant of the Kalibr Technopark since 2015. ITK Endoprint cooperates with leading clinics in Russia, including the Research Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedics named after R.R. Vreden, the National Medical Research Center of Traumatology and Orthopedics named after N.N. Pirogov, the Botkin City Clinical Hospital and other institutions.
